URI Governor: Gov’t Commits to Enhancing Human Resources Quality in Efforts to Produce Future Leaders

President Prabowo Subianto officially inaugurated Donny Ermawan and Yos Sunitiyoso as Governor and Vice Governor of Universitas Republik Indonesia (University of the Republic of Indonesia/URI) respectively. In his statement following the inauguration ceremony at the State Palace, Jakarta, on Wednesday (07/22), Donny Ermawan elucidated that the establishment of URI is part of the Government’s commitment to enhancing human resources quality in efforts to produce future leaders.

“So, the President is deeply concerned about human resources, particularly for Indonesian future leaders. Therefore, he envisions educational programs [at all levels], from elementary, junior high, and senior high schools, to higher education, as well as in the Government,” he stated.

Donny noted that the Government’s major measure toward boosting human resources capacity is being carried out through the integration of various existing educational programs and institutions. According to him, these efforts include the development of the Sekolah Unggul Garuda (Garuda Excellence Schools), the establishment of Universitas Republik Indonesia (URI), and the integration of the State Administration Institute (LAN).

“So, we have heard that currently there are Garuda Excellence Schools, both new ones and transformed ones. Furthermore, [we] will also establish 10 [branch campuses of] Universitas Republik Indonesia. The third initiative is the integration [of the educational programs] with the State Administration Institute (LAN). All of these are all related to education, development, and preparation of [our] human resources for the future, both for the Government and State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs),” he affirmed.

In addition, Donny revealed that the Government will establish the National Education Management Agency, which will operate under the authority of the Governor of URI. According to him, the agency will oversee three institutions.

“There will be three institutions under it: the first is the Management Agency for Schools of Excellence, the second is the Management Agency for Higher Education, and the third is the State Administration Institute (LAN),” he specified.

Regarding the integration and development of LAN, Donny elaborated that in the future, the function of the institute will be expanded, as it will cover not only the development of State Civil Apparatus, but also the development and education of employees of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs).

“While so far LAN has carried out human resources development specifically for the State Civil Apparatus, in the future we will also include the employees of SOEs. Thus, LAN will also prepare human resources for SOEs,” he added.

On that occasion, Donny also conveyed that efforts to develop human resources have already begun through the President’s Program for Future Leaders (P3MD). Through this program, the Government is preparing and educating the nation’s best future leaders on a sustainably basis.

“We are currently training and educating 399 new employees from SOEs to transform into personnel who possess noble hearts and sharp minds to advance our nation. Therefore, we are making integrated efforts to prepare top high school graduates to enter higher education and subsequently, join the Government or SOEs,” concluded Donny.
