“Use People’s Criticism as an Advice,” President Jokowi Says

President Joko Widodo had a short conversation at the Briefing of TNI and Polri Young Officer Candidates in Yogyakarta (25/7).

President Joko Widodo said that along with competition between countries and regions, threat to the country’s defence as well as national security disorder will be more severe and complex and the techology used for this purpose is more modern.

Therefore, the President reminded the soldiers of Indonesian National Defence Forces (TNI) and the officers of Indonesian National Police (Polri) to be more sensitive, to work faster, and to improve the quality of their performance.

“Use people’s criticism on the performance of TNI and Polri as an advice to improve you so that you can carry out your tasks well, make some achievements, and show good performance,” the President said when he briefed 720 young officer candidates (capaja) of TNI and Polri at Sabang-Merauke Building, Yogyakarta Air Forces Academy, Monday (25/7) evening.

The President asked them to be an officer that can well adapt with the development of strategic environment, either in national, regional, or global scopes.

To face the assignment sincerely

When starting his briefing, the President reminded that having a career as an officer means that they are the candidates of the country’s leaders. Therefore, the President asked them to ensure that every step they take reflects the attitude of a knight and they must be loyal to the nation and country.

“Face your assignment sincerely and passionately. Show all of your capacities and strength that comes from your undaunted spirit and willing to sacrifice,” the President said.

The President also asked the candidates, whose graduation day will be held on Tuesday (22/7), not to avoid any assignment because it is part of maturing process for all soldiers/officers of TNI and Polri.

“Indonesia put its expectation on your shoulders to be ready and capable to face all challenges,” the President said.

The President also mentioned about inter-region connectivity in Indonesia that has not been materialized yet because without it the gap between regions will still be exist and Indonesia’s unity is not strong.

Thus, the President added, the task of the candidates is to protect and ensure that connectivity in Indonesia will be materialized soon.

Several challenges that need our attention, according to the President, are drug abuse and its distribution, corruption, terrorism, radicalism, the acts of thugs, as well as conflicts and social tension that comes from intolerance acts in the society.

The briefing by the President was also attended by First Lady Ibu Iriana Joko Widodo, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Commander of TNI Gen. Gatot Nurmantyo, Chief of Polri Gen. Tito Karnavian, and Governor of Yogyakarta Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X.

After the briefing, on Tuesday (26/7) morning, President Joko Widodo is scheduled to lead the inauguration ceremony of 720 TNI and Polri young officer candidates atSapta Marga Building, Military Academy, Magelang, Central Java. (DND/ES)(MMB/YM/Naster)
