Vice President: Maritime Fulcrum Describes Indonesia’s Great Power

Vice President Jusuf Kalla accompanied by Governor of Aceh, Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Susi Pudjiastuti, and Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources signing the launching charter of Cheng Ho Rim Route, in Banda Aceh, on Sunday (13/12)

At the peak event of the Commemoration of 2015 Nusantara Day, at Lampulo Seaport, Banda Aceh, Aceh, on Sunday (13/12) afternoon, Vice President Jusuf Kalla delivered the importance of Maritime Fulcrum as national strong power.

According to the Vice President, Maritime Fulcrum indicates that the maritime power will give a great power to the country.

The great power, the Vice President added, surely needs to be supported by willpower and advanced knowledge.

“Maritime is not only about connecting one island to another, but it has a great resources and it is represented by willpower and advanced knowledge to explore the resources,” Vice President Jusuf Kalla said in his remarks.

Marine resources that Indonesia has, the Vice President said, include a massive amount of mineral resources and natural gas.

Therefore, he said that the Government is trying to preserve it by maintaining the sovereignty of the seas by eradicating illegal fishing.

“Without sovereignty in the maritime, we can not use the resources for the sake of national prosperity at maximum,” the Vice President firmly said.

Kalla also believes that the Commemoration of Nusantara Day is a beginning of improvement in the maritime.

Nusantara Day which is annually celebrated, he added, describes the unity of Indonesia in advancing the nation through land and sea.

After delivering the remarks, the Vice President signed the Charter of Lampulo Rim Banda Aceh Fisheries Seaport Zone and the Inauguration of Fisheries Industries in Lampulo Fisheries Seaport.

Afterwards, the Vice President and his entourages visited the exhibition area, had a luncheon with the fishermen and people near the location of “Khanduri Laot”. Khandori Laot or Kenduri Laut is a local tradition of the people of Aceh Coast, particularly the fishermen, which is inherited from generations.

Kenduri Laut is a symbol of gratitude to the Almighty God who provides lives to the fishermen and people in the coast.

Nusantara Day is celebrated on 13 December in difference provinces.

In 2015, Aceh hosts the commemoration of Nusantara Day.

This year’s event adopts the theme “Energy and Mineral Resources to the Development of Indonesia as World Maritime Fulcrum in Order to Materialize Nations Glory and Prosperity”.

In the event, several activities were also held, for example the Launching of Cheng Ho Rim Route, Launching of Energy Infrastructures for Economic Maritime Cluster and Launching of the Development of Innovation Villages based on People’s Economy through the Development of Hybrid Power Generating Station (PLTH) in Aceh Besar.

Meanwhile, the bestowal of honorary medal of the Republic of Indonesia, Satyalancana Wira Dharma and Satyalancana Wira Nusa medals were also carried out during the event.

Attending the event were Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Susi Pudjiastuti, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Sudirman Said, Minister of Research and Technology and Higher Education M. Nasir, Minister of Agrarian and Spatial Planning Ferry Mursyidan Baldan, Minister of National Development Planning (PPN)/ the Head of National Development Planning Agency Sofyan Djalil, Minister of Tourism Arief Yahya and Governor of Aceh Zaini Abdullah.
