Vice President Ma’ruf Amin Tuesday (08/23) has stated that careful financial planning is essential to purchase a house.

“Sharia Public Housing Savings (Tapera Syariah) is one of the measures to realize home ownership for the people,” the Vice President said at his remarks at the product’s virtual launch.

In addition, Vice President Ma’ruf considered that with the increasing public preference for sharia-compliant products/services, financial services industry has created an attractive new market.

“The increase in people’s preferences is not only seen in the financial services sector and other leading sectors of the sharia economy, but also occurs in the housing sector,” he added.

Citing data from the Financial Services Authority (OJK), the Vice President said that mortgage from sharia banks has reached Rp103.24 trillion as of March 2022, or an increase of almost 12 percent year-on-year and as of August 2022, there are 6.75 percent of Tapera’s active client’s expressing interest in sharia financing principles.

On that occasion, the Vice President also gave three strategic steps for a better development of Tapera Syariah.

First, you must offer Tapera Syariah in a proactive manner,” he said, adding that innovative and massive dissemination must be carried out, including within the scope of state civil apparatus, SOEs, and local governments.

Second, Vice President Ma’ruf underscored the importance of increasing the product’s scheme literacy to the public, including pros-and-cons compared to conventional products, so it can boost the level of sharia financial inclusion.

Third, Tapera Syariah must maintain its commitment to manage housing savings funds with sharia principles, which prioritizes the concept of mutual cooperation, justice, transparency, prudence, and halal,” he remarked. (BPMI Vice Presidential Secretariat/UN) (GWH/MUR)
