In a bid to implement Presidential Instruction Number 2 of 2021 on Optimizing the Implementation of Workers Social Security Program, Ministry of Villages, Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration registered all villages’ facilitators as members of Social Security Agency for Workers (BPJS Ketenagakerjaan).

“Minister of Villages, Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration should take necessary measures to register villages’ apparatus as active members of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan,” the Presidential Instruction reads.

Minister of Villages, Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration Abdul Halim Iskandar said that the BPJS membership is granted to provide social security and improve professional performance of the villages’ facilitators. The Presidential Instruction, he added, is a token of appreciation from the President to ensure security of villages’ facilitators during their works.

“On behalf of villages’ apparatus throughout the country, allow me to extend my gratitude to the President for including them in BPJS Ketenagakerjaan program in accordance with Presidential Instruction Number 2 of 2020,” the Minister said after signing a Memorandum of Understanding and Joint Cooperation between the Ministry and BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, on Friday (9/4).

He went on to say that villages’ apparatus need to feel secure so they can do their utmost to facilitate the Village Funds program. It is really necessary since the shortage in manpower made one village apparatus is responsible to manage 3-4 villages at the same time.

“We expect they can optimize their professional performances. As the result, Village Funds will be used on target. Second, the Village Funds must also be disbursed based on the provisions of laws and regulations,” he added.

In the meantime, Managing Director of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan Anggoro Eko Cahyo appreciated commitment of the Minister in providing social security for the employees. It has proven that the Ministry of Villages, Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration as the first Ministry implementing the Presidential Instruction Number 2 of 2021 paid close attention to the employees.

He hoped that other ministries/regulation to immediately follow the step.

For the record, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has issued Presidential Instruction Number 2 of 2021 on Optimizing the Implementation of Workers Social Security Program on 25 March 2021.

Deputy Cabinet Secretary for Human Development and Culture Yuli Harsono said that the Presidential Instruction was issued in order to optimize the implementation of the Social Security Program for workers and to ensure protection for workers in the program.

“In addition, the Presidential Instruction also aims to increase the membership of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan which until now has only reached 54.09 percent or 49 million workers from a total potential workforce of 92 million,” Yuli said in Jakarta, Wednesday (31/03).

Yuli also said that the Presidential Instruction also aims to increase employer awareness and compliance in providing social security for workers. (MINISTRY OF VILLAGES, DISADVANTAGED REGIONS, AND TRANSMIGRATION /UN) (RAS/LW)
