VP: DPD Members Play Active Role in Preventing COVID-19 Transmission in Regions
The Regional Representative Council of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI) members can play an active role in preventing the transmission of COVID-19 in their respective regions by urging people to comply with health protocols, Vice President Ma’ruf Amin has said.
“People will find it easier to obey their respective community leaders to maintain discipline in adhering to health protocols so that social and economic life can return to normal,” the Vice President said in his remarks at the commemoration of the 16th Anniversary of DPD RI through video conference, Thursday (1/10).
Quoting President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s directives to regional heads, Ma’ruf said that the Government spending is one of the keys to economic recovery in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. “Spending realization must be done immediately so that this year’s national economic growth can reach a positive figure, God willing,” he added.
Therefore, the Vice President expressed belief that the DPD RI has an important role in encouraging the regions to implement the President’s directive to immediately optimize any available resources and funds in order to maintain the people’s welfare.
“DPD RI must encourage all elements of the nation, including local governments to unite, work hand in hand to overcome problems in order to formulate policies that are in line with the Central Government to handle this pandemic together,” he added. (KIP-Setwapres/UN)
