Vice President Ma’ruf Amin urged the National Anti-Narcotics Agency (BNN) to take strategic measures to prevent and eradicate drugs abuse in Indonesia.

“I have ordered the BNN that leads the Prevention and Eradication of Illicit Narcotics Trafficking and Abuse (P4GN) to take strategic measures,” the Vice President said in his introductory remarks in the 2021 Commemoration of International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, held online, Monday (28/6).

Ma’ruf also pointed out four strategic measures to take in a bid to implement the national strategy of P4GN for 2020-2024 period regulated under Presidential Instruction Number 2 of 2020.

The first measure, he said, is to strengthen support from family in educating children regarding the dangers of drugs abuse and to encourage related agencies, educational agencies and organizations, and the communities to take part in that measure.

“The second is to warn the regions about the dangers of illicit drugs to make them free from drugs abuse,” he said.

The third measure, he added, is to improve rehabilitation services to meet the national standards and to improve the quality of human resources that provide rehabilitation services.

Meanwhile, the last measure, he added, is to enhance and expand cooperation in the prevention and eradication of narcotics at both national and international levels.

On that occasion, the Vice President also underscored that those four strategic measures can be well implemented if ministries, institutions, agencies, regional governments, and the communities join hands in inclusive cooperation and collaboration.  (Vice President’s Secretariat /UN) (RAS/EP)
