VP Inspects Mass Vaccination Program for Athletes in Jakarta

Vice President Ma’ruf Amin on Friday (26/02) has inspected the implementation of the first mass COVID-19 vaccination program for athletes, coaches, and sports support staff at Istora Senayan, South Jakarta.

According to Ma’ruf, athletes are among those who receive priority in the second phase of COVID-19 vaccination. The vaccination became important since there are some athletes that will participate in various competitions.

“Moreover, for those who are prepare to take part in international events such as the Olympics they must prepare well in advance so they can reach peak conditions during the competition,” he added.

The VP further said that athletes represent a physically strong group and he expressed hope the vaccination can be a motivation for other group of people.

In the meantime, Minister of Youth and Sports Zainudin Amali said that today’s vaccination was attended by 820 athletes, coaches, and sports support staff whose names have been registered by their respective sports management.

“There were also representatives from athletes with disabilities from the national training team in Solo. They are the ones who will compete in the Paralympic or Asian Para Games,” Zainudin said.

Vaccination for athletes, the Minister continued, is also scheduled in other regions by prioritizing athletes who will participate in competitions at the national and international levels.

“There are 5,000 people in the initial stage and 7,000 people for the second stage. So the total athletes who get vaccinated are around 12,000 people,” he concluded. (TGH/HUMAS KEMENPORA/UN) (GWH/LW)
