VP Ma’ruf Amin: ASEAN Para Games Promotes Equality

The ASEAN Para Games is a positive event for persons with disabilities, allowing them to increase enthusiasm and productivity in achieving goals, according to Vice President Ma’ruf Amin.

“The Para Games athletes prove that we can achieve our goals and make achievements by being stronger than the obstacles we are facing. The event is special as it also becomes a source of people’s inspiration on the meaning of equality,” the Vice President said in his remarks at the Opening of the 11th ASEAN Para Games 2022, at Manahan Stadium, Surakarta, Central Java, Saturday (07/30).

After a year of delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Indonesia has been selected to replace Vietnam in hosting the largest sporting event for disabled athletes in Southeast Asia.

On that occasion, the Vice President expressed appreciation for all parties’ hard work in preparing the event.

“I praise Governor of Central Java and all ranks, especially Mayor of Surakarta for the hard work that has been put into in preparing the 2022 ASEAN Para Games,” he said.

The Vice President also expressed hope that the 11th ASEAN Para Games 2022 could become a bridge of communication in strengthening relations among countries, especially in the Southeast Asian region.

“Best of luck with your fight in a sportive and healthy competition. I hope this sporting event will further strengthen friendly relations between ASEAN countries and the ASEAN community,” he remarked.

Mayor of Surakarta Gibran Rakabuming Raka as Chairperson of the Indonesian ASEAN Para Games 2022 expressed gratitude and appreciation for the 11th ASEAN Para Games 2022 and expressed hope that the event can give inspiration for all Indonesian people.

“We hope to find more talents and world champions that can inspire us all,” Gibran said.

For the record, the 11th ASEAN Para Games 2022 will take place on 30 July and end 6 August 2022 and is joined by 11 countries in the Southeast Asian region. (BPMI of Vice Presidential Secretariat/UN) (RIF/EP)
