VP Ma’ruf Amin Calls for Private Sector’s Role in Overcoming Housing Backlog

Vice President Ma’ruf Amin has encouraged private sectors to play a role in fulfilling the people’s need for housing as there is a huge backlog of housing.

For the record, the Government has previously launched a program called A-Million-House program as a measure to improve economic growth and the people’s standard of living.

Based on data from Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing, as of 30 September 2021, 763,127 units of house have been built across Indonesia. However, the backlog has amounted to 11 million units, while the need for housing increases by 500,000 per year, indicating a wide gap between availability and need for housing.

“I’d like to call for the private sectors and stakeholders to join hands in overcoming housing backlog. This condition is an opportunity for you to participate in providing livable homes for millions of our fellow citizens who need help,” the Vice President said at the live-streamed inauguration of Mondok Properti the Series, Thursday (07/10).

At the event organized by the Indonesian Developer Association (HIPNU) that adopted the theme of “Accept Challenges, Welcome Opportunities, Be Developers”, the Vice President also expressed his appreciation to those who have contributed in fulfilling the low-income citizens’ need for housing.

“On this auspicious occasion, I would like to thank those who care about fulfilment of housing needs, especially [the needs of] middle- to low-income citizens,” he said, adding that in providing affordable housing, the HIPNU as a housing developer organization should uphold principles of professionality and the spirit of goodwill.

“The board of management and members of this organization must have good intentions and act professionally in fulfilling the people’s need for housing by holding to the spirit of helping each other in goodness without distinction of ethnicity, race, and religion,” he said, while expressing hope that this event can create new entrepreneurs in the property sector to push for fulfillment of livable homes for the people.

“I hope Mondok Developer program initiative can push property entrepreneurs and developers to fulfill the people’s need for affordable housing.

In the meantime, HIPNU Chairperson Arwani Rahmat Pitoko thanked businesspeople and partners for their cooperation and participation in organizing the event as an effort to boost the national economy.

“I hope the event tonight brings benefits to us all, brings blessings, makes our business successful, and boosts the economy,” Arwani said.

For the record, Mondok Properti the Series is aimed at educating and disseminating housing developers’ business literacy, as well as creating new entrepreneurs in the housing sector.

Held from 7 to 29 October on Thursdays and Friday nights online through Zoom platform and open for public, the event featured presenters who are practitioners who are also HIPNU members and a number of national public figures, including those in housing, banking, and Islamic economy sectors.
