Vice President Ma’ruf Amin, Monday (05/09), urged regional governments to play their important roles in making a success governance and development in their regions.

The statement was made by the Vice President during the opening of the 2022 National Coordination Meeting of the Association of Indonesian Provincial Administrations (APPSI), at Discovery Kartika Plaza Hotel, Bali province.

Also on that occasion, Ma’ruf Amin delivered five points of note for the success of the regional governance and development.

First, regional governments must strive to increase people’s economy affected by COVID-19 pandemic.

“I order (the regional governments) to adopt more programs focusing on the strengthening of people’s purchasing power and reducing poverty through job creation and empowering economy,” he stated.

Second, regional governments should support the improvement of human resources quality in their respective regions by creating supportive ecosystem that facilitates the development of people’s capacity and skills, particularly the youth.

Third, regional governments are called on to take part in “Proud of Indonesian Products” National Movement (Gernas BBI), which is the national campaign to buy Indonesian products.

According to him, the use of national products will strengthen our economic resilience in facing various global challenges. Thus, regional apparatus must demonstrate the use of national products so they can dominate the market.

Fourth, regional governments must demonstrate their commitment to support Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) to speed up national economic recovery.

“Providing interest rate subsidy, credit restructuring, provision of working capital and tax incentives, as well as strengthening the use of digital technology for the MSMEs,” he added.

Fifth, the Vice President encouraged regional governments to provide excellent public services through bureaucratic reforms and management of state civil apparatus given that regional governments contributed up to 77 percent of national state apparatus.

On that occasion, Ma’ruf Amin also expressed his hope that all regional governments to adopt merit system that is based on work performance in order to improve the quality of civil servants and to prevent corruption, collusion and nepotism as well as discrimination in governance, including fraud in bidding process.

“I also order governors to push for implementation of Public Services Mall (MPP) in regencies and municipalities in their respective provinces as mandated by Presidential Regulation Number 89 of 2021, in order to improve public services in Indonesia,” he concluded.
