In a bid to build professional human resources throughout Indonesia, Vice President Ma’ruf Amin on Saturday (16/10) inaugurated the construction of the Community-based Vocational Training Centers (BLK) in Papua and West Papua provinces. The symbolic inauguration was held at Global Mission International Indonesia (GMII) Foundation in Jayapura regency, Papua province.

“Taking into account the huge potential that Papua has, Ministry of Manpower has taken a concrete measure to improve human resources’ competency through this program,” Vice President Ma’ruf said.

According to the Vice President, from 2017 until 2020, the Ministry of Manpower has allocated the budget for the construction of community-based BLKs in seven institutions in Papua province and five institutions in West Papua province, while in 2021, the Ministry of Manpower allocates budget for programs and construction of community-based BLKs in 12 institutions in Papua province and nine institutions in West Papua province.

The program, the Vice President added, cannot be carried out optimally if there are no support, collaboration, and synergy from the regional governments, the private sector, and local community.

“It is a big task for all of us to prepare good management, good facilities and infrastructures, and competent, great human resources in order to strengthen innovation ecosystem in Indonesia,” he remarked.

On that occasion, Minister of Manpower Ida Fauziyah said that the program also aims to reach all people who were previously unreachable by the Government’s training centers and private training centers.

According to the Minister, from 2017 until 2020, the Ministry of Manpower has built 2,127 community-based BLKs spread in religious institutions and organizations for workers and employees throughout the country.

By constructing 21 new community-based BLKs in Papua and West Papua provinces this year, Ida expressed hope that the public can enhance their technical production skills as well as vocational skills that are in accordance with the demand of job market and business world.
