Following the recent increase in cases of the Omicron variant, Vice President Ma’ruf Amin underscored that there must be no more quarantine dispensation for international travelers.

“There must be no more dispensation. [Moreover if] there are indications [on exposure to COVID-19], they must undergo quarantine,” the Vice President said in a press statement after inaugurating six houses of worship at Pancasila University in Jakarta, Wednesday (01/05).

According to the Vice President, currently, there are indications of local transmission. For this reason, steps to prevent the spread must continue to be carried out, especially in the regions.

The Central Government, the Vice President said, is currently intensifying the implementation of health protocols and vaccination drives. “We will start to give booster shots from mid-January 2022,” he said.

In addition, the Government also increased the level of Public Activity Restrictions (PPKM) in several regions through the Instruction of Minister of Home Affairs.

The Government also encouraged the use of PeduliLindungi application in public spaces including schools as students have started to attend schools in person. (BPMI of Vice-Presidential Secretariat/UN) (FI/LW)
