VP Ma’ruf Amin Praises Organizing of 20th PON in Papua

Vice President Ma’ruf Amien praised the organizing of the 20th National Games (PON) in Papua this year.

“The success of the PON organizing reflects the strength of the unity and integrity of the Indonesian nation as a pluralistic nation. Here in the Land of Papua, we are once again proving that solidarity, sportsmanship, unity, and integrity are the keys to mutual success. We must always take care of this together. Torang samua basodara. We are all brothers,” the Vice President said during the closing ceremony of the PON, at the Lukas Enembe Stadium, Jayapura regency, Friday (15/10).

Furthermore, the Vice President stated that the Papuan team, previously ranked 8th in 2016 PON, managed to gain 93 gold medals and ranked 4th in the 20th PON. This achievement shows that Papua has become the elite power of the national sports and proves that the Land of Papua is not only prosperous but also full of talents. For this reason, he said, the talents must be maintained and developed in all aspects to accelerate the development of welfare in the Land of Papua.

“These talents will bring progress and prosperity to Papua. So that the wealth of natural resources will provide the maximum benefit for the Papuan people themselves,” the Vice President stated.

On the same occasion, the Vice President also expressed his appreciation for the high determination and dedication of the Papuan government and the people who worked together to prepare and organize the PON. He considered that the organizing of this event was very difficult especially due to the various pandemic restrictions.

“For me, this becomes the most difficult organizing of PON to date. But, it turns out that the Papuan people are not only able to organize it, they also managed to organize it perfectly. This is in accordance with the motto of ‘Torang Bisa‘ (We Can). I congratulate all Papuans, this shows that Papua is not only equal to other provinces in Indonesia, but in some aspects, it is far superior,” he added.

During his speech, the Vice President also expressed gratitude to all athletes, Ministry of Youth and Sports as well as journalists and media for their hard works in contributing to the success of the event. (Vice Presidential Secretariat/UN) (FI/LW)
