VP Ma’ruf Amin Reveals Two Strategies to Alleviate Poverty
The Government has set a target of zero percent extreme poverty rate by 2024. To that end, Vice President Ma’ruf Amin Friday (05/12) revealed the Government’s two main strategies to reach the target.
“We have set a target of zero extreme poverty by 2024. In order to reach the target, we have two main strategies, namely increasing income and decreasing burden,” Vice President stated in his remarks on the Strengthening of Development and Village People Empowerment for Stunting-Free Indonesia and Extreme Poverty Alleviation at Sahid Bela Ternate hotel in North Maluku province.
According to Statistics Indonesia (BPS), more than nine percent of Indonesian people live in the poverty line, while around two percent of Indonesian people live in the extreme poverty line. Thus, Vice President Ma’ruf Amin called on all stakeholders to collaborate for alleviating extreme poverty.
“I order all stakeholders to seriously strengthen cross-institutional coordination and refine intervention activities to speed up poverty alleviation in various sectors,” the Vice President said.
Furthermore, Vice President Ma’ruf Amin also requested village facilitators to enhance their roles in assisting village heads and village apparatus in effectively targeting extreme poverty alleviation.
Echoing the same sentiment, the Ministry of Village, Underdeveloped Regions and Transmigration’s Secretary General Taufik Madjid earlier remarked that the realization of zero percent extreme poverty by 2024 has been carried out through the Village Fund, which has been channeled into village treasury accounts.
