In the commemoration of Pancasila Sanctity Day this year, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo called on the people not to let the PKI cruelty happen again and to uphold Pancasila (the Five Principles, the Indonesian State Ideology) and maintain unity.

“We must not give a foothold to other ideologies that are against Pancasila, let alone give a foothold for the Indonesian Communist Party (PKI),” said President Jokowi to reporters after leading the Pancasila Sanctity Day Ceremony at the Monument of Sacred Pancasila in Lubang Buaya, East Jakarta, Sunday (1/10).

The President added that the Government’s position is very clear because the 1966 Temporary People’s Consultative Assembly Decree (TAP MPRS) on the Disbandment of the Indonesian Communist Party (PKI) clearly stated that communism was banned in the country. “It is very clear. I think I do not have to repeat it again,” the President said.

President Jokowi also called on all components of the nation and members of the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police as well as all government institutions to join hands to work together to build the nation, bring calm and peace for the people, and be united to face global competition.

Regarding the reconciliation itself, President Jokowi, who said that he watched the screening “Pengkhianatan G30S/PKI (The Treachery of G30S/PKI)” three times with the last one in the Headquarters of Korem 061 Suryakencana in Bogor, Jawa Barat, Friday (29/9), said that the matter can be asked to Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Wiranto. (UN//OJI/ES) (EP/YM/Naster)
