Young Officer Candidates Must Participate in Addressing Crisis during COVID-19 Pandemic

Young officer candidates of the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) and Indonesian National Police (Polri) must participate in seeking breakthrough to address the crisis during COVID-19 pandemic and strengthening unity and solidarity based on the State Ideology Pancasila in order to create leap of progress.

The statement was made by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo at the inauguration of young officer candidates of the TNI and Polri at the State Palace, Jakarta, Tuesday (14/7).

The President asserted that we all must see the bright side of this pandemic that hits 215 countries. He added that health and economic crisis are not only experienced by Indonesia but also many other countries.

“Nevertheless, as a nation of fighters, we must not give up, we should not only successfully address several problems that the pandemic brings, but also use this time of crisis to strengthen the nation and make some leaps of progress,” he said.

According to the President, crisis as the impacts of COVID-19 can enhance compassion and cooperation, strengthen unity and solidarity, and accelerate reforms and development of technology and industry.

President Jokowi reminded the young officer candidates that they must be able to notice future challenges and opportunities because the world changes rapidly, all sectors are disrupted, and revolution industry 4.0 further stimulates these rapid changes.

“In this hypercompetitive world, all countries will compete to master science and technology including in the industry,” he firmly said.

Also on that occasion, the President also said that military technology will develop rapidly, and start utilizing artificial intelligence, augmented reality, and cyber technology.

“The Police officers must combat more challenging crimes, such as high-tech crime, cross-border cybercrime that must be combatted through excellence anticipation and mitigation efforts.

For that reason, President Jokowi called on young officer candidates of the TNI and Polri to always follow the current development, must have excellent human resources quality, must master science and technology, and must develop an innovative mind to adjust to the changes.

“You must uphold code of ethics and identity of TNI and Polri officers, uphold the honor as an officer, strengthen solidarity and unity, and provide the best service for the country and the people,” he said.

Also attending the inauguration were among others, Vice President Ma’ruf Amin, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Commander of the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto, and Chief of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) Gen. Idham Azis. (MAY/EN)
