President Prabowo, PM Modi’s Visit to Prambanan Captivates Locals, Indian Diaspora
A sense of awe for the world’s magnificent cultural heritage filled the atmosphere at the Prambanan Temple compound in Sleman regency, the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) province, on Wednesday (07/08). [Adding to the excitement], the presence of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto alongside Indian Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi brought a distinct happiness to the public who had the historic opportunity to witness the moment firsthand.
Among the crowd, several members of the Indian diaspora who have long resided in Yogyakarta, could not conceal their deep emotion. One of them was Dev Anand, an Indian national who has lived in Yogyakarta for 37 years. For him, the chance to meet President Prabowo and PM Modi in person was [beyond his wildest dreams].
“It feels just like a dream. We never thought or imagined something like this could happen. Being able to shake hands with President Prabowo and PM Modi? It is truly extraordinary for us! It feels as though our lives are complete now,” Dev said, his face beaming with happiness.
He also expressed his deepest gratitude for the warm welcome Indonesia extended to his country’s leader. According to Dev, the attention shown by President Prabowo toward PM Modi and the Indian diaspora community left a profound impression.
“I am incredibly happy today. Thank you, Indonesia. Not only PM Modi, but President Prabowo also gave such a wonderful response and welcomed us warmly [here]. [Truly], I believe [he is the first Indonesian President to welcome us this way],” he expressed.
According to him, the relationship forged between President Prabowo and PM Modi reflects the closeness of two leaders who both prioritize the well-being of their people. In a simple yet poignant expression, Dev described the two figures as sharing the same spirit of devotion.
“It is like one mother with two children. One mother, two children, both working for the people. So, I believe they are a perfect [combination],” he noted.
Dev further expressed his hopes that the good relations between Indonesia and India would continue to flourish under the leadership of both figures. He also conveyed his high appreciation to President Prabowo for his various efforts dedicated to the people.
“We are deeply grateful to President Prabowo as well. [We hope] Indonesia continues to move forward and always progress. Long live Indonesia, may it always prosper,” Dev said enthusiastically.
Domestic tourists spending their holidays at Prambanan Temple also felt the same warmth. Rosa from Sukoharjo and Betty from Boyolali admitted they never expected to meet President Prabowo and PM Modi in person.
“Alhamdulillah, [Grateful to] Allah. I am so thrilled [because] this sister and I managed to get to the very front. Alhamdulillah. We were able to shake hands with them. Mashallah. The Indian Prime Minister also took time to shake hands. [We are] so happy. Alhamdulillah,” said Rosa with a radiant smile.
For both, the visit of President Prabowo and PM Modi to Prambanan Temple was a source of immense pride. The presence of two state leaders at one of the world’s cultural heritage sites is considered to elevate Prambanan’s image as a destination of high historical and civilization value.
“I feel proud. Truly proud that [they] could visit Prambanan Temple. [Exceptionally proud],” Rosa remarked.
The visit of President Prabowo and PM Narendra Modi to Prambanan Temple not only strengthened cultural diplomacy between Indonesia and India but also delivered a moment that resonated closely with the people [of both nations].
