President Prabowo Holds Meeting on Sugar and Salt Availability to Safeguard Food Supply
President Prabowo Subianto held a limited meeting with a number of Red and White Cabinet Ministers at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Wednesday (02/05). The meeting discussed the readiness of the national food sector, especially ahead of fasting month Ramadan.
One of the issues discussed was the availability of sugar and salt, two important commodities that play a role in the national food industry. Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono reported that Indonesia still faces challenges in achieving salt self-sufficiency, especially for various food needs.
Although domestic production has increased, the industrial sector still requires additional supplies to ensure price stability and availability of salt in the market. “Salt. Yes, we still need it for various food purposes. So, we can’t be self-sufficient, that’s one of them,” Sakti told the media crew.
Sakti went on to say that various aspects of the marine sector were also discussed during the meeting. However, the preparation of food needs ahead of Eid al-Fitr becomes the main focus as the Government continues to strive to maintain price stability and ensure that food supplies remain safe to meet the needs of the community during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr.
