President Prabowo Subianto Tuesday (01/21) at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta chaired a limited meeting with the main agenda of discussing acceleration of the development of the new Capital of Nusantara.

Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) in his statement to the media after the meeting stated that the development of Nusantara remains the Government’s priority that must go in line with the timeline and the stages that have been set out.

“Following the President’s directives, we will continue the development of Nusantara according to the timeline and the stages that have been set out as an explanation to the public,” AHY said in his press statement in the Cabinet Meeting Room of the Presidential Palace in Jakarta.

AHY also explained that the development of Nusantara would focus on the concept of a “political capital” by completing the construction of government facilities, including facilities for legislative institutions (the House of Representatives, the Regional Representative Council, and the People’s Consultative Assembly) and judicial institutions.

This, he said, is in accordance with President Prabowo Subianto’s vision to create a thorough governance system that reflects democracy.

“The President has given instructions to focus first on the construction of government facilities so that when the facilities for carrying out all the three governmental functions have been completed, we can perform our political duties and activities, both daily and strategic ones,” said AHY.

During the meeting, the President and his Cabinet also discussed funding sources involving a combination of sources from the State Budget and non-State Budget through cooperation with private sectors.

The Government hopes private sectors can give positive contribution and in a well-integrated way in Nusantara development project.

“This reflects the positive cooperation between the Government and the business entities. We also hope that private sectors can contribute positively and of course in a well-integrated way,” said AHY.

Meanwhile, Head of the Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) Basuki Hadimuljono reported that in the initial stage (2022-2024), the Government had invested Rp89 trillion from the State Budget to build crucial infrastructure such as toll roads, 47 residential towers, drinking water systems, sanitation, reservoirs, retention ponds, offices, and places of worship.

Private investment worth Rp58.41 trillion had been successfully mobilized until September 2024, he added.

“We have also received input from Minister of Housing and Residential Areas to optimize private sectors that have carried out the groundbreaking eight times earlier and will carry out the 9th later on. We are pushing them to not only carry out the groundbreaking, but also to proceed with the construction activities,” Basuki said. (BPMI of the Presidential Secretariat/ABD)
