President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo strongly condemned the Israeli military attack on Rafah, Palestine.

The President’s statement was made in Dumai City, Riau, on Saturday (06/01) in response to the recent escalation of violence in Palestine.

“Although I have stated this many times before, I want to reiterate that Indonesia strongly condemns Israel’s attack on Rafah,” President Jokowi emphasized.

He also emphasized that Israel must comply with international law, including the orders from the International Court of Justice to halt their offensive against Palestine.

“Israel had the obligation to obey the International Court of Justice, including stopping its offensive attacks on Palestine,” he added.

This condemnation reflects Indonesia’s firm stance against human rights violations and breaches of international law, as well as its support for peace and stability in the Middle East.

Previously, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) had ordered Israel to cease its attacks in Rafah. The ruling was issued on Friday (05/24).

In its ruling, as cited from its official website, the International Court of Justice ordered Israel to immediately stop its military attacks and other actions in Rafah that may result in partial or complete physical destruction of the Palestinian population in Gaza.

Additionally, Israel must ensure that the Rafah crossing remains open for essential services and much-needed humanitarian aid without obstruction.

“Take effective steps to guarantee unimpeded access to the Gaza Strip for commissions of inquiry, fact-finding missions, or other investigative bodies mandated by the relevant UN bodies to investigate allegations of genocide,” the ruling wrote. (BPMI SETPRES/AIT) (EST/LW)
