President Prabowo Subianto Inaugurates Kelapa Gading – Manggarai LRT Track, Strengthening Greater Jakarta Connectivity

The new light-rail transit (LRT) track connecting Kelapa Gading and Manggarai is an important part of national development and transformation, especially in the densely populated Greater Jakarta metropolitan area, President Prabowo Subianto said.
“We are witnessing a crucial step in our national development, transformation plan. Greater Jakarta or Jabodetabek has perhaps become the largest metropolitan area in the world, with a population of 42 million. We are capable of managing an agglomeration and metropolitan area of that size. It may even be larger than those in other countries. We can manage it safely in a democratic, orderly situation,” he said at the inauguration of the Kelapa Gading—Manggarai track of Jakarta LRT at Manggarai LRT Station in Jakarta, Wednesday (09/16).
According to the President, development and governance in Greater Jakarta serve as an important example of how the central and regional governments can work together in the public interest.
“We are servants of the people. We serve the people. Our minds, our energy, our efforts are all devoted to the people of Indonesia,” he said, highlighting that public officials bear a mandate to serve the people.
“As long as we accept this mandate and the honor of serving the people of Indonesia, we must work for the greater good and in the interest of the nation and the people,” he said.
The President also expressed optimism that Indonesia would continue to progress despite current challenges and ultimately achieve the aspirations envisioned by the nation’s founding fathers.
“I am confident that Indonesia will soon rise despite all her challenges, and that we will fulfill the aspirations of our nation’s founding figures,” he said.
The Head of State also pointed out that cooperation and a spirit of mutual cooperation between the central and regional governments can positively impact on development and the economy.
“The Governor [of Jakarta] stated that Jakarta has seen positive growth. Companies that were previously in a somewhat sluggish progress are now rebounding, and investment has increased remarkably. It shows that when leaders work together, as they must, we can rise as a great nation,” he said.
For the record, Governor of Special Region of Jakarta Pramono Anung previously stated that Jakarta’s economy has continued to grow positively, reflecting investors’ confidence in Jakarta’s safe and comfortable situation.
“This quarter, [the economy of] Jakarta grew by 5.52 percent, with inflation stood at 2.5 percent. Jakarta contributed 16.32 percent to our [national] economy. This is the good news, Bapak President. In 2021, Jakarta recorded Rp103 trillion in investment for the entire year. Over the past two years under your leadership, Jakarta’s [economy] surged by 162 percent. In 2025, Jakarta gained an investment of 270 trillion. In fact, in the second quarter of this year, in 2026, the investment value reached 173 trillion,” he remarked.
