Miftah Maulana’s resignation as the President’s Special Envoy for Interfaith Harmony and Development of Religious Facilities demonstrates his accountability for his statement, according to President Prabowo Subianto.

“I have not seen it myself, but I received a report that he has resigned. In my view, it is an act of responsibility,” he said in his press statement at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Friday (12/06).

The President added that Miftah might not have intended to insult, yet nevertheless, he admitted to his mistake.

“He probably uttered the wrong words, but he acknowledged his mistake and took responsibility. He resigned,” he said.

President Prabowo stated that the Government would immediately look for the right replacement as the Special Envoy, adding that multiple parties would be involved to provide input for the proposed preacher certification.

“We will involve groups that understand this issue. Perhaps they would give feedback. The Ulema Council, religious community organizations, and others. We will ask for their input,” he remarked. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/DNS) (DH/MMB)
