Indonesia Should Achieve Food Self-Sufficiency in 4-5 Years: President Prabowo
President Prabowo Subianto Sunday (10/20) underscored the importance of achieving food and energy self-sufficiency amid global uncertainty.
“We must achieve food security in the shortest possible time. We must be able to produce and meet food needs of all Indonesian people. There is no other way,” President Prabowo said in his inaugural speech before members of the House of Representative at the Nusantara Building, Senayan, Central Jakarta.
The Head of State also expressed optimism that Indonesia will be able to achieve food self-sufficiency in the next four to five years.
“In fact, we are ready to become the world’s food barn,” he said, adding that Indonesia will also use its natural resources, including water, palm oil, cassava, sugar cane, and sago, as well as geothermal and coal energy, to achieve energy self-sufficiency.
Regarding people’s welfare and the economy, President Prabowo highlighted the importance of on-target subsidy distribution by utilizing digital technology and downstream commodities to increase added value so that people can be more prosperous.
“Our children must all be able to eat nutritious food at least once a day. We will do that. We can do that,” he added.
President Prabowo also affirmed commitment to root out corruption through system improvements and strict law enforcement.
“There is a saying that says, ‘a fish rots from the head down’. All officials, be it echelon officials or their subordinates, must set an example to exercise the cleanest possible government leadership,” the President concluded. (DND/ABD) (GWH/MMB)
