Honorable Mayor of Magelang.

Ladies and gentlemen,

As people of faith, let us never cease to offer our gratitude to Allah SWT, the Almighty God, the Lord of the universe. Only to Him do we pray, and only from Him do we seek help. We are thankful for His blessings, goodness, and peace that continue to be granted to us as a nation, as well as for the health that enables us to gather in this historic place, Tidar Valley, for the important event for all of us: the Leadership Enhancement Course for Regional House Speakers from across Indonesia.

Ladies and gentlemen,

When I was invited to attend this event, some of my staff suggested that my presence could be represented by someone else. But once I learned that all regional legislative council chairpersons from across the nation would be gathered here, I considered this event important and appropriate enough for me to come in person.

Ladies and gentlemen,

Today, I want to speak as a fellow citizen, just like all of you. We come from different backgrounds, regions, ethnic groups, educational backgrounds, professions, and political parties. As fellow children of the nation, today I want to speak from the heart. I want to speak frankly. What I say may not please everyone; some may get offended, and some may feel hurt. Nevertheless, I believe that, as fellow citizens and patriots, everyone under this tent is a patriot. I also come here with the belief that we all love our homeland, our nation, and our people. That is my belief.

If that is indeed the case, if my belief is correct that you are all here as children of the nation, and if what the Governor of Lemhannas said earlier is true—that you are eager to hear my direction—then I must speak in honest and direct manner. (GWH/MUR)
