President Prabowo Subianto concluded a series of activities for the 2025 BRICS Summit held for two days on July 6-7, 2025 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya stated that President Prabowo’s presence at the 17th BRICS Summit elevates Indonesia’s global standing and makes Indonesia crucial worldwide because big countries are now paying more attention to Indonesia’s voice and role in various global issues.
“There were officially 28 countries and Heads of State/Government. So, there were 10 BRICS members, 10 partner countries, and 8 guests. Even, there are so many (countries) lining up to join BRICS. This shows that Indonesia is increasingly being heard, acknowledged, respected, and needed on the global stage,” said Cabinet Secretary Teddy after accompanying President Prabowo at the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Tuesday (7/8).
This was the first time for Indonesia, he added, to officially participate in the BRICS Summit on the initiative of President Prabowo. He said all BRICS member countries gave their support to Indonesia to officially become the 10th full member of BRICS.
“So, out of 10 member countries of BRICS, almost 50 percent is the world’s population where their GDP is around 35 percent of the global GDP,” he added.
Cabinet Secretary Teddy said that Indonesia’s involvement in BRICS is a new step to expand the network of international cooperation and collaboration. He said President Prabowo is actively building relationships with various global organizations to strengthen Indonesia’s position in the global eye.
“The President thinks about how Indonesia collaborates and joins as many organizations as possible. Joining BRICS is one of the efforts,” the Cabinet Secretary concluded. (BPMI of the Presidential Secretariat) (JAS/MUR)
