President Prabowo Subianto Wednesday (04/09) affirmed Indonesia’s readiness to play more active roles in conflict resolution in the Middle East, particularly Gaza.

“My fellow citizens, the call is based on aspiration to play more active roles in assisting and encouraging conflict resolutions in Gaza and the Middle East region, in general,” he said before kicking off state visits to the Middle East and Türkiye, at the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta.

Although geographically Indonesia is located far from the center of conflicts, the President asserted that Indonesia is the largest muslim populated country in the world and also part of Non-Aligned Movement. Thus, the country has a strategic position because it is accepted by all sides and has gained trust from international community.

“This position means we bear responsibilities. Let me reiterate that Indonesia is ready to play active roles if related parties call for it. We will take part in accordance with our capacity and capability,” he said.

In addition, the Head of State said that Indonesia has sent medical aids and deployed medical personnel to the conflict zone as a form of commitment to humanitarian action in Gaza. He also expressed his appreciation for dedication of medical staff and Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) personnel who are currently working at the most dangerous place.

The President has also expressed Indonesia’s willingness to temporarily house victims, orphans, and conflict-affected citizens from Gaza. He has ordered Minister of Foreign Affairs to communicate with related parties in Palestine to discuss mechanism to evacuate the victims and relocate them to Indonesia.

He added that Indonesia will shelter the refugees temporarily. They will return when they have fully recovered from their injuries or the situation in Gaza is safe. Therefore, he underscored the significance of coordination with leaders in that region.

On that occasion, President Prabowo also asserted that Indonesia’s active role in Palestine is not merely a form of solidarity but also the country’s commitment to humanitarian action and Palestinian independence.  (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (RAS/MMB)
