President Prabowo Urges Younger Generation to Realize Their Roles, Responsibilities in National Life

President Prabowo Subianto delivered a scientific speech at the Open Senate Session during the Inauguration of New Undergraduate and Graduate Students for the 2025/2026 Academic Year, as well as the Undergraduate Graduation Ceremony and Anniversary of the Kebangsaan University of the Republic of Indonesia (UKRI) in 2025. In the beginning, the President expressed his appreciation for the leadership of UKRI Rector Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, who was considered successful in developing the university in a sustainable way.
“Therefore, I must commend Professor Sufmi Dasco Ahmad for his leadership. He has successfully developed this university even better,” said the President at the Trans Convention Center in Bandung City, West Java Province, on Saturday (10/18).
In his remarks, President Prabowo said that there are three main roles in human life that determine the direction of activities and organizations, namely leaders, followers, and those who have not yet understood their roles. He reminded the youth to understand their positions and responsibilities clearly.
“You must have the courage to be a good leader or a good follower. Don’t be confused about your roles, as sometimes you have to perform different roles at different times. There are times when you must serve as a leader, and there are times when the leader must serve as a loyal follower. So, the success and failure of every human activity are also determined by the leader,” he said.
The President then explained that there are four basic principles which serve as the key to effective and reliable leadership in addressing societal challenges. In his opinion, every leader must uphold those principles as foundation for carrying out their mandate effectively.
“The most important thing is to use common sense. Second, act based on careful calculation. Third, careful calculation must be based on the truth. If these are adhered to, the final thing is moral character,” he said.
On the occasion, President Prabowo also conveyed the achievements of his administration for almost a year since his inauguration on October 20 last year. “I stand before all the Indonesian people with confidence because we have proven to the entire nation and the world that we can fulfill our promise to the people,” he said.
The President also advised the UKRI graduates not to be complacent with their academic achievements. He further reminded them that every difficulty is part of the character-building process that will strengthen the young generation’s abilities to face the future.
“Your journey of life’s struggle has just begun. I was pleased to hear the previous speaker advising that you, as young people, must have the courage to face the future and the challenges it poses: that life is not easy; it is full of struggle, full of challenges, full of difficulties,” he remarked.
