President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Tuesday (09/24) made the inaugural landing at Nusantara Airport, Nusantara Capital, East Kalimantan Province using the RJ-85 Presidential Aircraft.

Alhamdulillah, this is the first landing. Everything went well and smoothly,” President Jokowi told journalists after inspecting the airport.

Initially planned as a VVIP airport, the President has directed Minister of Transportation to convert Nusantara Airport into a commercial hub to accommodate regular flights, including Hajj and Umrah services.

“This way, the airport will be more beneficial to the general public,” he noted.

The airport’s initial capacity is expected to reach 200,000 passengers by the end of the year, with a projected annual capacity of 7 million passengers once fully operational as a commercial airport.

The airport is anticipated to become a key infrastructure asset, supporting the mobility of people to and from Nusantara while bolstering Indonesia’s tourism and transportation sectors. (BPMI Presidential Secretariat/DNS) (GWH/RAS/EP)
