President Prabowo Subianto reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to strengthening food sovereignty and putting an end to the losses of state wealth. The statement was delivered during his remarks at the major shrimp harvest event and post-harvest sorting inspection at the Area-Based Shrimp Aquaculture (BUBK) estate in Kebumen regency, Central Java province, on Saturday (05/23).

In his address, the President noted that during the 19 months of his administration, the Government had achieved a number of strategic milestones, particularly in the national food sector. The Head of State highlighted that Indonesia has now attained self-sufficiency in several key food commodities.

“We have now achieved food self-sufficiency. We are already self-sufficient in rice and corn. As for protein, eggs and poultry are already sufficient, while beef production still requires further work. We are actively working on it, and perhaps within the next four to five years, we will achieve self-sufficiency in beef meat as well. Our food supply is relatively secure,” the President stated.

President Prabowo deemed such achievements crucial amidst ongoing global conflicts and geopolitical uncertainty. According to the President, Indonesia must remain vigilant and continue strengthening national resilience across various sectors.

“Conflicts and wars are occurring in many parts of the world. We are grateful to the Almighty that we have not been drawn into them, but we must remain vigilant. We must build our strength, which is why we continue strengthening our defense capabilities to safeguard our national wealth,” the President remarked.

Alongside food security and national defense, the President underscored the importance of independent national wealth management, in accordance with the mandate of the 1945 Constitution. The Head of State stressed that Indonesia’s natural resources must be utilized to the greatest benefit of the people.

“We are now managing our own wealth. We refuse to let our resources be continuously misused by certain individuals or specific countries. We have already put this into practice. We must do this, as it is a mandate by the Constitution. And it is for the prosperity of all Indonesians, not just a select few,” the President asserted.

The President also referred to his address before the People’s Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia (MPR RI) on 20 May 2026. On the occasion, the President stressed that while Indonesia possesses tremendous wealth, the country still faces the problem of resource losses that must be halted immediately.

“Indonesia is a truly a very wealthy nation, but we continue to suffer significant losses of our national wealth. This must be stopped. I am determined to exert every effort, together with all [members of my administration], to do every measure necessary to prevent further losses of the Indonesian people’s wealth,” the President remarked.

According to the President, all of these efforts are undertaken to ensure that nation’s wealth can genuinely be enjoyed by the entire Indonesian population, rather than only by certain groups. “That wealth must be enjoyed by all Indonesians. Not just by a handful of people,” the President concluded.

Food sovereignty, independent management of natural resources, and the prevention of state wealth losses remain key foundations in advancing toward a stronger, more sovereign, and more prosperous Indonesia. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (YA/LW)
