Gov’t Accelerates Earthquake Assistance in NTT, Delivers 27 Tons of Logistics

The Government continued to accelerate assistance to areas affected by the earthquake across East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) province.

In a written statement on Sunday (08/16), Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said that the Government had delivered 27 tons of logistics to the affected areas.

“This was the last delivery flight on Saturday. A total of 27 tons of logistics were sent to NTT by Air Force Hercules aircraft on the same day,” Teddy said.

In addition to logistical assistance, Teddy noted that President Prabowo Subianto urged cross-sectoral collaboration to ensure that post-disaster management is carried out optimally and reaches those most in need.

The President, he added, also instructed relevant institutions to monitor conditions in the affected areas first-hand.

“President Prabowo Subianto instructed Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Minister of Public Works, Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), and Head of the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), Vice Minister of Health, Vice Minister of Social Affairs, along with officials from state-owned electricity company PLN, state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina, state-owned telecommunication company Telkom, to fly to NTT on the day of the disaster to ensure that assistance was delivered optimally and reaches those most in need,” he wrote.

Teddy also highlighted the Government’s commitment to accelerate post-earthquake response by deploying personnel of the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri) to carry out restoration and evacuation efforts in the affected areas.

“In addition, following the disaster, the TNI and Polri deployed more than 3,500 personnel to Flores Island, on Saturday, including to Manggarai, Maumere, Flores, and other affected areas,” he concluded. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (RD/MEP)
