Remarks of President of the Republic of Indonesia at the Inauguration of the Leuwikeris Dam and the Modernization and Rehabilitation of the Menganti Irrigation Area in Tasikmalaya Regency, West Java Province, August 29, 2024

Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,

Good afternoon,

May peace be upon all of us.

Distinguished Minister of Public Works and Public Housing,

Distinguished Provincial Secretary,

Distinguished Regent of Tasik,

Distinguished Regent of Ciamis,

Esteemed Directors of Relevant Ministries, Farmers,

My beloved Children, and all Distinguished Guests,

Water is essential for life and symbolizes balance and harmony.

However, if not managed properly, water could be disastrous. Without water, there would be no life or food. Therefore, it is crucial to manage water appropriately as every drop counts.

Alhamdulillah, Today, the Leuwikeris Dam, built in 2016, was inaugurated after eight years of construction at a total cost of Rp3.5 trillion. Out of the 44 dams I have inaugurated, this particular dam stands out as the most expensive with a price tag of Rp3.5 trillion.

Typically, dams cost around Rp1 billion, Rp1 trillion, or Rp1.5 trillion. However, this dam’s cost of Rp3.5 trillion is exceptional. Additionally, it covers a substantial flood area of 243 hectares and has a water capacity of 81 million cubic meters.

We are confident that this project will serve various purposes, including raw water supply, irrigation, flood control, and power generation. It has been calculated that it can irrigate an area of 11,200 hectares, providing significant support to farmers.

And by saying bismillahirrahmanirrahim, this afternoon I hereby inaugurate the Leuwikeris Dam and the Modernization and Rehabilitation of the Menganti Irrigation Area in West Java Province.
