President Prabowo Subianto Opens Nahdlatul Ulama 35th Congress
President Prabowo Subianto opened the 35th Muktamar (congress) of the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) at Bahrul Ulum Tambakberas Islamic boarding school, Jombang regency, East Java province, on Thursday (08/27).
In his opening remarks, President Prabowo extended his appreciation and honor to the Nahdlatul Ulama for inviting him to open the congress. He also said that Nahdlatul Ulama is a historical organization that played a significant role in the Indonesian nation’s struggle for independence.
“It is such a huge honor for me. Nahdlatul Ulama is a historic institution that has made immense contributions to the Indonesian nation’s struggle for independence,” he added.
Head of committee of the congress, Syaifullah Yusuf, in his report said that the congress which adopted the theme “Preserving Dignity, Enriching Service for the Welfare of the Nation” was attended by NU officials from various levels, both domestic and international including 38 regional chapters, over 550 local branches, and 33 special branches.
Besides members of NU, the congress was also attended by thousands of people across the country, making their ways to be part of the congress of the Indonesia’s largest Islamic organization.
For the record, the congress will serve as a platform for the boards and participants to formulate the organizational direction, strategic programs, and recommendations for the benefit of the public and the nation. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (RAS/LW)
