PM Wong Affirms Optimism for Indonesia’s Future, be Ready to Strengthen Strategic Partnership

Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong affirmed optimism for Indonesia’s future. He said that the relation between the two countries that has been built on mutual trust, respect, and understanding is a strong foundation for taking the Indonesia-Singapore partnership to a higher level.

“Singapore has confidence in Indonesia’s future. We want Indonesia to succeed because our futures are closely connected,” PM Wong said in a joint press statement at the Leader’s Retreat at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Monday (7/6).

He said that optimism is actualized in a number of Singapore’s investments in Indonesia for years. He emphasized that this investment brings capital flows and fosters Indonesia’s development.

“These investments are not only capital flows. They create business, downstream industry, digital infrastructure, opportunity, and good employment for Indonesian people. And our companies have always seen those opportunities here. It is also proven with our excellent collaboration,” he said.

On the occasion, PM Wong mentioned the high interest of Singaporean investors in Batam city, Bintan regency, and Karimun regency (BBK). “BBK will soon be transformed into a vibrant digital center, attracting leading companies to invest there,” he said.

PM Wong also said that Kendal Industrial Park which has met its capacity is a proof of the success of the collaboration between the two countries, and it will continue to expand to attract new investment and create more jobs.

“Kendal Industrial Park celebrates its 10th anniversary this year and is another success story. It has reached full capacity and will expand another 1,000 hectares. This expansion will attract more investment, create more jobs, and support Indonesia’s sustainable development and growth,” he said.

PM Wong further said that an enhanced relationship in trade and investment between the two countries will be supported by strengthening supply chain resilience. He said this becomes a joint effort of Indonesia and Singapore in facing global challenges.

“We are committed to strengthen our supply chain resilience, enabling the two countries to support each other amid the effort to navigate other external turmoil,” he said.

On the occasion, PM Wong also emphasized that Indonesia and Singapore share the same vision to continue to look for potential that open new collaboration opportunities. This aims to enhance competitiveness of the two countries and strengthen ASEAN region.
