President Prabowo Subianto Tuesday (03/11) welcomed environmental activist Pandawara Group at the Merdeka Palace, Central Jakarta.

The meeting was held by President Prabowo as an appreciation for the social movement carried out by the group in tackling waste problems in the country.

“Mr. President expected that (the meeting) can be an additional motivation for us to continue serving the country, especially in waste problems,” the Pandawara Group member Gilang told the press.

According to Gilang, President Prabowo ordered the group to remain committed and not lose heart in carrying out its mission. “That is a special order from Mr. President to us,” he added.

Gilang went on to say that the meeting did not discuss funding support, but the group underscored that shared awareness is important in overcoming environmental problems.

“Since environmental problems in Indonesia are quite complex, synergy between individuals, private sectors, and the Government is required so that the movement can be carried out in massive, intensive manner,” he said, adding that waste and conversion of water channels are two of leading problems that caused recent major flood in Greater Jakarta.

For that reason, Pandawara Group in the future desires to expand their movement nationwide by involving more youth in environmental actions so that they can become role models for the younger generation to care more about the environment.

“We hope that by being invited here, we can be an example or reminder for Indonesian youth to be more aware of the environment, since the environment is the one that gives us life,” Gilang said. (BPMI Presidential Secretariat/DNS) (GWH/LW)
