President Prabowo Urges Enhancement of Digital Connectivity Access on Miangas Island

President Prabowo Subianto provides hundreds of Starlink service units, handphones, internet modems, and telecommunications infrastructure through Base Transceiver Station (BTS) development program for Miangas Island, Kepulauan Talaud regency, North Sulawesi province, on Saturday (05/09).

President Prabowo Subianto has given special attention to strengthening communication facilities on Miangas Island, Kepulauan Talaud regency, North Sulawesi province, one of Indonesia’s outermost islands serving as a border point between Indonesia and the Philippines.

This step is part of the Government’s commitment to ensure that the people in border areas remain connected and feel the presence of the state up to the foremost points of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.

During his working visit on Saturday (05/09), President Prabowo emphasized the importance of strengthening communication and internet access for people in outermost regions. The assistance provided includes hundreds of Starlink service units, handphones, internet modems, and telecommunications infrastructure booster through BTS development support program.

President Prabowo said that communication connectivity is no longer an additional facility but has become a basic need for modern society and an essential part of national defense and sovereignty. Therefore, Indonesia’s outermost regions must be a development priority so that the people are not isolated and have adequate communication access.

“There are also signal boosters so that mobile phones can operate here. Minister of Communications and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid will provide mobile phones. There are Starlink unit and mobile phones for all households,” said President Prabowo during his visit to state vocational high school SMK Negeri 2 Talaud.

The strengthening of the communication network on Miangas Island is expected to support various daily community activities, from education and health services to coastal community and fishers’ economic activities. In addition, better communication access is also considered important in supporting emergency communications in border areas.

The Government believes that the availability of stronger internet and telecommunications access will open new economic development opportunities for local communities. The presence of a stable communication network is also expected to improve the quality of public services and accelerate people’s access to various government digital services.

The initiative also reflects the Government’s development direction, which is no longer centered in big cities but reaches the outermost islands that serve as the front line of national sovereignty.
