President Jokowi Sends Off Indonesian Contingent to 2024 Paris Olympics
President of Indonesia Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Wednesday (07/10) sent off Indonesian contingent competing for the 33rdOlympic Games in Paris 2024, at the Front Yard of Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.
During the occasion, the President encouraged the athletes to be optimistic and compete with full enthusiasm.
“I know that in the games, you will face many of the world’s best competitors, which will undoubtedly be challenging. But I urge you all to remain optimistic and compete with full spirit,” said the President.
He also expressed hope that the nation’s best athletes would achieve outstanding performances in this prestigious sporting event, and bring pride to the people, the nation, and the country.
“You all know what the people of Indonesia want— they want to see the Red and White flag to be raised and hear Indonesia Raya to be played at the Olympic arena, and they want you all to return home with medals,” the President added.
President Jokowi highlighted that the athletes selected for Paris Olympics had undergone rigorous selection processes. He reminded them to prepare well because their performances at the Paris 2024 Olympics would draw attention of the global community.
“The eyes of the world will be on upon you. The Indonesian people will also be watching and cheering for you, placing high hopes on our athletes. Therefore, prepare yourselves well, both physically and mentally, get ready to compete, and let’s hope for success and victory, bring home medals,” the President stated.
The 33rd Olympic Games Paris 2024 will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024, featuring 182 countries competing in 32 sports. Indonesia will be represented by 29 athletes—16 men and 13 women—across 12 sports. They will be accompanied by 20 coaches, 9 officials, and 28 headquarters members comprising medical support, sport performance analyst, and media staff.
The Indonesian contingent to Paris will compete in 12 sports: badminton, weightlifting, rock climbing, archery, shooting, athletics, swimming, surfing, gymnastics, cycling, rowing, and judo.
Also attending the event were Minister of Youth and Sports Affairs Dito Ariotedjo, Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Erick Thohir, and Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung. In addition, the Chairman of the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) Raja Sapta Oktohari, Chairman of the National Sports Committee of Indonesia (KONI) Marciano Norman, and heads of various National Sports Associations are also among the attendees.
