President Prabowo Kicks Off Kalimantan Working Visit to Manage Forest Fires

President Prabowo Subianto Saturday (08/22) took off for the island of Kalimantan to inspect sites of forest and land fires and lead the management in several areas on the island.
“Saturday morning, August 22, 2026, President Prabowo flew to Kalimantan to inspect and directly lead the simultaneous management of forest and land fires on Kalimantan island,” Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said in a written statement.
According to Teddy, President Prabowo has assigned high-ranking officials of the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) and Indonesian National Police (Polri) to directly handle forest and land fires on the ground in four affected provinces across the island.
“The day before, President Prabowo ordered the top officials of TNI and Polri to directly handle forest and land fires with regional governments and local communities in four affected provinces across Kalimantan. The duties were divided to ensure swift, integrated, and simultaneous management,” he said.
The President assigned the Commander of TNI and Chief of Polri to manage fires in West Kalimantan province, Chief of Staff of the Army and Deputy Chief of Polri in Central Kalimantan province, Chief of Staff of the Navy and Polri Chief Assistant for Operations in South Kalimantan province, and Deputy Commander of TNI and Commander of the Polri Mobile Brigade Corps in East Kalimantan.
“The President instructed them to manage forest and land fires as swiftly and effectively as possible so the people can return to carry out their activities normally. The President also ordered that any legal violations discovered be firmly addressed in accordance with applicable regulations,” Teddy said. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (DH/AW)
