President Prabowo, President Macron Celebrate Two Nations’ Friendship at State Banquet

President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto with President of the Republic of France Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte had a state banquet in State Palace, Jakarta, on Wednesday (05/28). The event was one of the crucial moments during the state visit of President Macron and the First Lady to Indonesia.

In his remarks, President Prabowo expressed his respect and pride in welcoming President Macron to Jakarta. He emphasized that Indonesia and France’s relationship has been enhanced in various sectors, from defence to culture, and has been strengthened over time.

“Once again, it is a great honor for us to welcome the President of the Republic of France and the First Lady with all delegates this evening for the state visit to Indonesia”, President Prabowo remarked before the guests.

The Head of State added regarding bilateral discussion, held previously which was intensive and productive. President Prabowo also thanked President Macron for his official invitation to President Prabowo as an honorable guest in Bastille Day on July 14th in Paris.

“It is my honor and we are ready to send the Army contingent to join the parade in France,” said President Prabowo.

In response to President Prabowo’s warm remarks, President Macron expressed his respect and gratitude for the remarkable welcome. He also said that France and Indonesia have an intimacy elevated by history and culture, although we are separated by distance.

“It is truly an honor for me and my wife to be welcomed by you during the state visit. Although our metropolitan capital cities are 12 thousand km apart, we are connected by our history of wind and destiny of breath,” said President Macron.

President Macron cited Indonesian cultural influence on France’s big figures, such as the poet Arthur Rimbaud and the composer Claude Debussy. He also expressed his admiration for Indonesian life philosophies. “Sedikit sedikit lama-lama menjadi bukit” (Many a little makes a mickle),” he stated in the Indonesian language admired by the guests.

Related to cooperation in defence and culture, the President emphasized that both countries uphold independence values. President Macron also invited President Prabowo officially as an honorable guest on Bastille Day.

“I would like to invite you as an honorable guest on the 14th of July, therefore the Army can join the parade which will be held,” said President Macron.

With a strong friendship spirit, the two leaders reemphasized their commitment to level up the relationship between Indonesia and France in a respectful, sovereign and inspiring atmosphere.

Bersama-sama kita akan berhasil” (Together we will succeed), President Macron concluded his remarks in the Indonesian language, as a symbol of a meaningful evening in Indonesia.
