President Prabowo Subianto has emphasized the importance of having a just and robust legal system as an absolute requirement for the success of a nation, especially amidst the complex and resource-rich Indonesia.

“The key element of a country’s success — from what we learn from history — is the presence of a legal system that guarantees justice for all. This is a fundamental requirement for a successful nation,” the President said at the inauguration of 1,451 Supreme Court judges held at the Supreme Court Office in Jakarta, Thursday (06/12).

According to him, Indonesia, as a great nation with nearly 300 million people comprising hundreds of ethnicities, religions, and cultures, can only endure and progress if justice is upheld without discrimination.

He went on to say that history shows that failed nations often lose their protective function for their people due to weak legal systems.

“A failed country is one that cannot fulfill what the founding fathers set as national goals: to protect the people, promote the people’s welfare, educate the nation, and maintain world order,” he said.

The Head of State also underscored that judges, as the last guardians in the judicial system, are pivotal in maintaining order, stability, and national integrity, adding that a strong executive branch cannot perform its duties effectively without support from an independent and high-integrity judiciary.

“That is why a modern state, for hundreds of years, has been said to consist of three elements — the trias politica: executive, legislative, and judiciary. You cannot have a strong executive but a weak legislative and judiciary. It cannot be done,” the President explained.

The President further said that law enforcement is the main instrument for building a just civilization and preserving national unity.

“With a strong judiciary and strong law enforcers, I believe the police will work optimally, the military and the prosecutors will support, and everyone will collaborate. We will bring order to this country, and we will make Indonesia succeed because of a robust legal system,” the President remarked. (BPMI) (EST/EP)
