Gov’t Speeds Up Fishing Village Program, Aquaculture Development

The Indonesian Government is committed to completing the establishment of Red and White Fishing Villages in 65 locations to improve the welfare of coastal communities.
“Currently, it is at around 20-30%. Hopefully, by the end of the year, we can finish it,” Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono said after a limited meeting at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Thursday (11/06).
During the meeting, President Prabowo Subianto ordered the Ministry to develop land-based aquaculture across the country.
“The land-based aquaculture development was ordered by the President to be set up in 500 regencies,” he said.
In addition, the Minister stated that the aquaculture program is targeted to run gradually and aims to be completed in two years.
“It won’t be completed until 2026. This year, we will start the development in 100 locations,” he concluded. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (FI/LW)
