As part of his official visit to the Russian Federation, President Prabowo Subianto Thursday (06/19) paid tribute to the victims of the Siege of Leningrad at the Piskaryovskoye Memorial Cemetery in St. Petersburg, Russia.
The President arrived at the location and was welcomed by high-ranking representatives of the Russian Government.
Following military protocol, the President was then escorted to the wreath-laying area.
As part of the ceremony, two Russian soldiers carried the main wreath and laid it with due respect.
Afterwards, the President solemnly paid tribute, accompanied by the sound of 24 metronome beats echoed across the memorial grounds. The Indonesian delegates also paid tribute by placing even-stemmed flowers.
Joining the President during the visit were Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono, Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan, Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, and Indonesian Ambassador to the Russian Federation Jose Tavares.
The ceremony concluded with an official photo session and an honor guard defile. More than a gesture of tribute to Russia’s history during World War II, it also reflects the close and respectful diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Russia. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (FI/EP)
