President Prabowo Subianto Monday (09/08) attended the virtual BRICS Leaders’ Summit from his private residence in Kertanegara, South Jakarta.

The online meeting, attended by several heads of state and high-ranking officials, addressed global issues that have become common concerns.

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva opened the meeting by addressing his remarks, followed by President of People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping and President of the Arab Republic of Egypt Mesir Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.

President Prabowo was the fourth to address his view and stance on several global issues. During his speech, he reaffirmed Indonesia’s full support for multiple initiatives created in the BRICS forum.

“We fully support the initiatives taken. We commend the leadership of President Lula, and Indonesia is committed to working closer with all the BRICS countries,” he said.

The forum served as a platform for leaders to exchange perspectives on global economic development and the state of the current multilateral system, recognizing that geopolitical situations and global economic dynamics also influence international trade stability and economic growth prospects in various regions.

Indonesia’s participation in the BRICS forum reflects its commitment to promoting constructive international dialogues, showing efforts to expand its active role in global governance and to create strategic partnerships that can bring real public benefits.

For the record, the online summit was also attended by President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, President of South Africa  Cyril Ramaphosa, Crown Prince of the United Arab Emirates Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed, Foreign Minister of Ethiopia Gedion Timothewos, and Foreign Minister of India Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.
