Let us offer our praise and gratitude to Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala. We are blessed with good health, with grace, and with a long life so we can attend the Launching of the National Electric Motorcycle and Its Supporting Ecosystem.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Today is a very important day. I would like to express my deepest gratitude and appreciation to all stakeholders, including private enterprises, entrepreneurs, businesspeople, SOEs, and academic communities, who have produced experts forming the core of research and development. In my view, today’s inauguration stands as a good example of what I call ‘Indonesia Incorporated’. In this modern era, a nation’s success lies in its ability to master science and technology to sustain its national life. Only then can a country or a nation be deemed successful.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Our country is vast, very vast, so that sometimes we do not realize how big our country is, and our country is wealthy, very wealthy, so that sometimes we do not realize how wealthy we are. The natural resources that the Almighty God has bequeathed upon us are incredible. With technology, we can quickly discover the reserves of our natural resources. Now, we are more mature as a country. Now, we are more mature as a nation.

Our nation is relatively young. In 1945, we proclaimed our independence, but it was followed by a war, a five-year-long war. Through a five-year war, we managed to seize our independence. However, the colonizers did not leave us willingly, so once we achieved our independence, within the first weeks of our independence, they carried out a coup d’état to topple the new government—two weeks following the transfer of sovereignty. Ladies and Gentlemen, especially the youth, learn history. A nation that does not understand history will be punished by history. If we do not understand how other nations treated us, we might as well always remain victims.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I never asked any of you to despise other nations, no. Our nation is in fact very friendly. We are known for our hospitality, our kindness—that is in our DNA, that is our nature. This characteristic is what other nations consider soft. We are considered the soft state. We sometimes take a while to realize what happens around us and to us. Our natural resources have been stolen, smuggled, and illegally mined for so long. Our treasure, our wealth is stolen right before our very eyes, but sometimes we are slow to react. So many issues have caused us losses.

Once we became independent, once we achieved sovereignty, once the Red-and-White flag was raised, in 1950, and so on, every year, acts of intervention occurred: Legion of the Just Ruler, Republic of South Maluku, Darul Islam/Islamic Armed Forces of Indonesia, the Revolutionary Government of the Republic of Indonesia/Universal Struggle Charter, Sarawak People’s Guerrillas, North Kalimantan People’s Army, 30 September Movement/Communist Party of Indonesia, and so on. Read our history. riots. Every time we were on the brink of take-off, something went wrong.

Devide et impera, we are a pluralistic nation. It is not our will. It is divine destiny. We do not choose where we are born or who gives birth to us. We do not choose. That is destiny. We are destined to be born as a plural nation with many different ethnicities, many different religions, many local languages, many local customs. However, we remain in harmony. That makes many nations wonder. We have many challenges, many difficulties. Many of our people remain in poverty. Extraordinarily, our people, even the most underprivileged, can still smile. They can have only one piece of clothing, one set of clothing, a house made of woven bamboo, but they still smile. I still don’t understand.

Today, in my view, is a very important day because it is the milestone of the initiative of private businesspeople who began this project, perhaps. Indika, Indika Group, yes, Indika Group, a group that has worked for a long time. When I was young, I had heard of Indika. I was young back then. Now, I am somewhat young. There are young, somewhat young, a bit young, and a dream to be young.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Indika is engaged, if I am not mistaken, in the mining industry, and I don’t know whose initiative this is, but it has intended to produce electric motorcycles for several years. Production line is not something that is dealt with in two or three days. When I saw their motorcycles several months ago, I said, “I want to see your factory and whether it carries out production properly.” Didn’t I? To whom did I say that? Someone who came to Hambalang? One of your people? From ALVA and Gesits, and Len as well, I remember. I [said], “I want to see you establish a production line.”

Didn’t I say that? Maybe you only stamp your brand on other companies’ products. This is a common occurrence. We need to self-reflect. Sometimes, we become tempted, but it’s alright. You can do it at the beginning. Only at the beginning. After that, we must be smart. We must be vigilant. Today, we see the intention. This is something we must appreciate. I believe this is something we should appreciate. So, I congratulate all of you who have the courage to take this step. Taking initiative requires courage because initiative comes with risks. Everything you launched several years ago may fail. Even today, the risks persist. Today, I am calling on all of you to manifest ‘Indonesia Incorporated’. We must unite as one. The strong, the medium-sized, and smaller businesses must unite. As of today, let me say frankly, Arsjad, Wisnu, Indika, you still face risks. You face exceptional competition from great countries—Japan, Korea, China—and yet, you remain courageous.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

That is why I became a soldier; then I retired. Retired, yes. Soldiers’ pension is not great, but we serve the nation. Work earnestly without expecting something in return. Agree? I hope so. I became a businessman, so I truly understand that being a businessman, being an entrepreneur, requires a characteristic similar to that of a soldier. An entrepreneur is called one because they fight and use war strategies. There are intelligent agents, right? R&D is the intel. Furthermore, they have logistics, calculations, and everything is calculated. They still face risks, they do, but they have courage.

For that reason, once I saw and noticed that this is a national interest—we need to stop relying on imported energy sources. We are too great to depend on others. Too great. A war occurs somewhere far away, but our people can fall victim. We have no interest. There are disputes and trade wars, but we are affected. We cannot be haunted by this. Apparently, if we learn properly—and we should not take too long—we can understand. Indonesia has incredible power. Indonesia has extraordinary natural resources. The question is whether we can maintain and manage them. Ladies and Gentlemen, this event today is an example of how to manage them.

So, Ladies and Gentlemen, through the use of electric motorcycles and cars, electric buses, electric tractors, and electric-powered machines and equipment as many as possible, we will be more secure. We will be more prosperous. We send money in USD for our fuel oil. Sometimes it exceeds US$30 billion. Between US$28 to US$30. Isn’t that correct, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources? US$30 billion every year. We intend to lower the amount.

With our B50 diesel, we have reduced imports. In fact, we should no longer import diesel. However, we are still reliant on some imported energy sources. We will shortly replace LPG with CMG. We will also build a solar power plant with a capacity of 100 gigawatts, and we must carry it out in four years. However, our target this year is to achieve 30 gigawatts. Just this year’s target. PLN must no longer use diesel power plants. Approximately 13 gigawatts must be phased out as soon as possible. There are many other energy sources, truly so many. Week by week, our scientists, our researchers achieved magnificent results. Hydrogen reserves, great natural hydrogen, and other reserves.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

We need—I suppose it will not take too long—three, four, five years to truly revive. Now, we have begun to revive. Today, I will sign on this launching because today, Indika Group has managed to produce 20,000 motorcycles. I told Indika Group that if they produce 200,000, I will visit them again. I will visit them again if they produce two million.

Ladies and Gentlemen, congratulations. As for others, Danantara, provide support for what you can support. We have talked about it. Minister of Finance will not like it too much, but in the end, you will like it. We will reduce—what is that called?—interests. We will lower the installment interest rates and make them more affordable for the people. We will also try to eliminate the required down payment. So, for those who still use conventional motorcycles, it’s on them.

We calculated that using electric motorcycles, compared to conventional motorcycles, can save you at least 50 percent on your daily mobility expenses. A minimum of 50 percent. In fact, it can lower costs by 70 percent. Because it is a global requirement, there may be a carbon tax. In big cities such as Beijing, conventional motorcycles are not allowed. This is a warning for those who still prefer conventional motorcycles.

Rest assured, we will have [relaxation] schemes. We will find a way to allow trade-ins for those who already have conventional vehicles. You can exchange your old motorcycle for a new one. You only have to pay a little. Agree? Those from TNI and Polri only want to get it for free.

Alright, Ladies and Gentlemen. I have stated my points. We are proud today, and we will see even faster progress in the time to come. Someone told me that an ecosystem is being built for our electric vehicles, if I am not mistaken, not far from here, toward Purwakarta [regency] in Subang [regency], at kilometer 84, yes. We are building a huge complex for Indonesian electric vehicles, with mass production expected to begin by 2028 at the latest. Thank you, once again, Ladies and Gentlemen.
