Remarks of President of the Republic of Indonesia at the Inauguration of the Maternal and Child Health Service Building at the Hasan Sadikin Hospital, Bandung, West Java province, August 29, 2024

Bismillahirrahmanirrahim.

Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.

Distinguished Minister of Health, Minister of Public Works, [Acting] Governor of [West Java], Mayor [of Bandung], Director of Hasan Sadikin Hospital, Director of PP, and distinguished management and staff of Hasan Sadikin Hospital.

Entering the maternal and child health building at Hasan Sadikin Hospital, I felt like I was stepping into a four-star or even five-star hotel. Is it four stars or five stars?

After entering this building, I noticed that the layout is wonderful, the furniture is excellent. Most importantly, all the equipment is digital and modern. This will set a new benchmark for quality healthcare, including hospital management. We need to provide a clear example for the people, so they can easily replicate it. Without an example, no matter how much you preach about it, it won’t happen. So, just bring them here, no need to say anything. Simply tell them, “Copy this, replicate this,” and it will be done. This will elevate our quality standards. I have received complaints that our regional hospitals, especially the third-class wards, are often too dark and gloomy. But here, all wards are bright and well-lit.

So, for those who want to undergo in vitro fertilization or whose children are ill, there’s no need to go to Singapore, Malaysia, or anywhere else—Hasan Sadikin is enough. We must have that spirit, the spirit of competing with other countries.

This eight-story building, with 490 beds, has cost Rp383 billion. That’s fine, as long as the hospital quality is like this. I believe the government doesn’t mind. And it is the responsibility of the Minister of Health to prepare the funding, it is the responsibility of the Minister of Health to secure the funding.
