President Prabowo Subianto on Wednesday (6/24) attended the 17th National Farmers and Fishers Week (PENAS) 2026, held at Limboto Sport Center, Gorontalo regency, Gorontalo province.
The crowd was excited to welcome President Prabowo’s arrival. On the occasion, he was wearing Upiya Karanji, the traditional headpiece of Gorontalo, a symbol of local culture.
Featuring a theme “Technology Transformation to Support National Food Self-Sufficiency”, the event was attended by 50,000 participants from various backgrounds—farmers, fishers, regional government, related organizations, and practitioners in food and agriculture.
The event began with singing the national anthem, Indonesia Raya, and the march song of KTNA (Farmers and Fishers Association), and continued with a traditional dance, Argomaritim, by high school students of Gorontalo.
The event continued with a prayer led by Ahmad Faisal, Rector of the Sultan Amai State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Gorontalo, followed by a report from the Chair of the Organizing Committee of PENAS and Chairman of KTNA, Muhammad Yadi Sofyan Noor. This was followed by a report from the Minister of Agriculture, Andi Amran Sulaiman, before President Prabowo delivered his remarks at the 17th PENAS 2026.
In his report, Minister Andi Amran stated that the 17th PENAS was attended by participants from across Indonesia and represented the immense strength of the nation’s farming and fishing sectors.
“Mr. President, we would like to report that representatives from all 38 provinces of Indonesia and more than 400 regencies across the country are present today, representing 162 million farmers and their families, as well as 14 million fishers. Together with the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, the total reaches 178 million people across Indonesia,” he said.
In his address, President Prabowo expressed his gratitude and pride for the invitation and the opportunity to be present among Indonesia’s farmers and fishers. The President emphasized that his attendance at the forum held special significance, given his long-standing connection with the agricultural sector.
“I would like to express my gratitude for the great honor bestowed upon me. I was invited so that I could be here among all of you at this very noble and important event, the 17th PENAS in 2026,” the President stated.
He also highlighted his historical closeness to Indonesia’s farmers and fishers, a bond that he said had existed for a long time. President Prabowo noted that his service as a former soldier was one of the reasons for this connection.
“I am a former Indonesian soldier, and since the birth of the Indonesian military, Indonesian soldiers have always been supported and assisted by farmers and fishers,” he said.
After delivering his speech, President Prabowo visited the Modern Rice Cultivation Technology demonstration under the Advanced Agricultural System Model (PM-AAS) and toured the Technology Exhibition Area, which showcased various innovations in agriculture, fisheries, livestock, plantations, and supporting technologies for achieving food self-sufficiency.
Also attending the event were several ministers from the Red and White Cabinet, regional leaders, Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces General Agus Subiyanto, and Chief of the National Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (RD/LW)
