Belarus President Lukashenko: Indonesia is Key Partner in Southeast Asia

President of the Republic of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko emphasized that Indonesia is one of Belarus’ key partners in Southeast Asia.

He conveyed this in a joint press statement with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto following their bilateral meeting at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Thursday (07/02).

“Indonesia will always be one of Belarus’ important partners in Southeast Asia. And you know, if you have just one friend in Southeast Asia, that’s enough for me,” President Lukashenko said.

President Lukashenko also noted that relations between Indonesia and Belarus have grown increasingly close in recent years.

According to him, that cooperation between the two countries has made significant progress, both in areas already realized and in those that still hold substantial potential for future development.

“I am very pleased that over the past few years relations between Belarus and Indonesia have become much closer. We have made considerable progress in various fields, some already yielding results and others still holding great potential,” he said.

President Lukashenko also stated Indonesia and Belarus have enjoyed relations spanning more than three decades. Since diplomatic ties were established in 1993, cooperation between the two countries has continued to grow, grounded in mutual respect and support.

He also noted that Belarus’ relationship with Indonesia has historical roots and is underpinned by shared views on a number of international issues. He said that the ties between the two countries reflect common goals and mutual support.

On the occasion, President Lukashenko also conveyed his appreciation to President Prabowo for the invitation to undertake a state visit to Indonesia. He said that the visit had left a deep and lasting impression on him and on the Belarusian delegation.

He also recalled his first visit to Indonesia in 2013 and observed that Indonesia continues to demonstrate rapid development and strong economic prospects.

“I always remember my first visit in 2013, when I saw for myself how rapidly this beautiful country is developing, and I am confident that its economy will continue to grow,” he said.

President Lukashenko further explained that this state visit had been in preparation for a year, noting that President Prabowo Subianto’s previous visit to Belarus provided an important foundation for advancing the cooperation agenda between the two countries. He emphasized that Belarus recognizes the significant work being carried out by Indonesia under President Prabowo’s leadership.

“We in Belarus are very pleased that, as a result of this visit to Indonesia, you have also become acquainted with Belarus, and we have witnessed firsthand that this represents a major effort. I would like to reiterate that what we have planned is now being put into practice,” he said.

President Lukashenko described the high-level talks in Jakarta as constructive and friendly, and expressed confidence that relations between Belarus and Indonesia will continue to strengthen through effective cooperation across a wide range of sectors.

He also underlined that Belarus is ready to work closely with Indonesia, particularly in economic and trade projects, as well as in the humanitarian, social, and cultural fields.

“We are your friends, Mr. President, across many areas, and we sincerely hope to work together effectively. Our main focus is on projects in the economic and trade sectors, as well as in humanitarian and socio‑cultural fields,” he said.

President Lukashenko’s state visit to Indonesia represents a crucial opportunity to further strengthen the partnership between the two countries. In addition to reaffirming Indonesia’s position as Belarus’s key partner in Southeast Asia, the visit opens up broader prospects for mutually beneficial strategic cooperation in the years ahead.
