President Prabowo Subianto Reviews TNI Recruitment Access, Disaster Response, Forest-Fire Prevention

President Prabowo Subianto Saturday (08/29) discussed a number of strategic issues with Commander of the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI), Chiefs of Staff of the TNI, several ministers and other relevant officials at his residence in Hambalang, Bogor regency, West Java province.

“This afternoon through the evening, President Prabowo Subianto received the TNI Commander and the Chiefs of Staff of the TNI along with Minister of Defense, Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Minister of State Secretary, and the Cabinet Secretary at the Hambalang residence, Saturday 29 August 2026,” said Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.

One topic discussed was the progress of efforts to adjust recruitment requirements for members of indigenous Dayak communities seeking to join the TNI. The President requested updates on these efforts to ensure that opportunities to serve as soldiers become increasingly accessible.

“At the meeting, the President requested updates on several issues, including adjustments to the requirements for indigenous Dayak people who wish to become TNI soldiers,” Teddy wrote.

The President also received reports on the progress of disaster-response efforts in several regions of Indonesia, including post-earthquake recovery in Flores and the eruption of Mount Merapi.

Forest and land fires, particularly in the islands of Kalimantan and Sumatra, also received the President’s attention. Therefore, he called for response measures to be strengthened, followed by prevention efforts at the community level.

In this regard, the President emphasized the important role of Village Guidance Officers in educating the public about the dangers of forest and land burning.

“The President wants Babinsa to educate village residents about the danger of forest burning, so that together we can protect our forests and land,” the Cabinet Secretary added.

The meeting formed part of the President’s continuing efforts to monitor the implementation of the Government’s strategic policies, both to strengthen defense and TNI human resources and to ensure that disaster response and environmental protection pare carried out swiftly and in an integrated manner.
