First of all, indeed, as devout individuals, we would like to express our appreciation and gratitude to Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala, God the Almighty, God the Greatest, who owns all the universe, only to God we pray and ask for help. Praise and peace upon Prophet Muhammad Shallallahu ‘Alaihi Wasallam, the Messenger of Allah, who have given us guidance, religion, and civilization. We are grateful that we have been given health, so we could attend the National Commemoration of Nuzulul Qur’an 1447 AH on the 20th day of Ramadhan month, the 21st night of Ramadhan month, which are believed to be Lailatul Qadar night within the last ten days of Ramadhan month. Hopefully, tonight will bring more goodness and blessings for all of us.

I would like to thank the religious figures, great ulemas, ustadz, for attending the event. My great appreciation to Prof. Quraish Shihab who has given a brief sermon to us all and who has taught us about basic things, the meaning of peaceful, peacefulness, and peace, and that difference is not something that necessarily leads to disunity. What is really meaningful to me is the enlightenment he gave on justice, and also the fate of a leader who has been trusted by the nation and the people. I became more aware that leadership is a destiny, and authority is given by the permission of the Almighty. Authority is given as a task to defend truth, justice and honesty; and authority is a task to protect as well as to bring welfare and justice to the people.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

The commemoration of Nuzulul Qur’an this year is an opportunity for us all to understand and to fully take in the teachings of Al-Qur’an. Therefore, I think the messages delivered are so meaningful to us considering the global condition that is full of uncertainties, dangers, global leaders with great power who do not maintain the peace that we need, that mankind needs. We, Indonesian nation, and other nations as well need to foster unity among us, to foster harmony among us to face the uncertainties, to face the dangerous situation. However, we have also been reminded by Prof. Quraish Shihab that we should be confident that in the end those who hold the truth will win, and that we will achieve our goals. With a clear and strong determination and commitment, insya Allah together we will achieve our goals.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

As the President of the Republic of Indonesia, I always remember the task assigned to me, that my duty as President of the Republic of Indonesia is to protect the motherland Indonesia, all of the Indonesian people. All Indonesian people, whatever their ethnicity, whatever their race, whatever their religion, must be protected, must be looked after, must be cared for, must be nurtured. Therefore, I realized that the most important thing is to work very hard to maintain peace. The Indonesian nation, under the leadership of my government and all my ministers, we are determined to maintain friendship and good relations with all nations, with all countries, with all powers. We do not want to interfere in the internal affairs of any country. We respect all powers in the world, both great and small. This is the path our founding fathers have chosen. This is also pointed out by almost all religious teachers of all religions, that we will try very hard to maintain peace. Of course, maintaining peace is not only done by praying and hoping, but also by endeavor, by working hard to achieve prosperity and justice. We realize that it does not fall from the sky without effort and hard work from all of us.

We are given an enormous wealth by the Almighty. At this moment, once again, I say that we must fight hard to eliminate poverty, hunger and suffering from all our people. We must not allow any of our people to be neglected. We can. We have been given sufficient wealth by the Almighty, now the leaders must work well.

I would like to thank Prof. Quraish Shihab, thank you for all your support, for all people’s supports. Indeed, we must eliminate corruption, embezzlement, all improper and bad practices, which are prohibited by all religions. It is taught by religions; it is taught by history. No country can succeed if its government is unable to rid itself of corruption, this is taught by religions and history. We must not lose to those who want to take the people’s wealth, take it to other countries and keep the Indonesian nation and people in a weak state.

I am grateful, I am grateful for this wonderful evening, I get more lessons, warnings, and additional encouragement. I am grateful for Prof. Quraish Shihab who is willing to attend and continue to enlighten me about my duties. I thank the ulemas, ustadz, community leaders. Let us unite, let us work hard, let us secure and save all our people.

I ask for your continued prayers, I ask for your support, we will succeed, we will excel, we will overcome all difficulties. We will eradicate those who have been destroying our economy. We will eradicate them, we will face them and we will carry it out, we will uphold truth and justice. Thank you for your attention, Ladies and Gentlemen.

Wassalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.

Thank you all, thank you for the prayers and support of you, Ladies and Gentlemen, and my beloved children.

Thank you.

I conclude my remarks.
