In a bid to commemorate the birth of Pancasila, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and the cabinet Ministers Saturday (06/01) showcased the diversity of Indonesian culture through traditional clothing across the country at Garuda field of PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan, Dumai city, Riau province.

President Jokowi wore Melayu Teluk Belango traditional attire, accompanied by its accessories showing splendor and local wisdom. The traditional clothing not only highlights aesthetics but it also had deep symbolism such as fortitude and integrity, reflecting the values of Pancasila.

At the event, Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi chose to wear a contemporary kebaya, emphasizing that traditional Javanese attire can be worn in all situations. Retno stated that this year’s commemoration was special because it was held outside Jakarta.

“This indicates that Indonesia is not only Jakarta but also Sabang to Merauke. Each region has unique qualities that strengthen our national identity,” she said.

On the occasion, Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/Head of the National Land Agency Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono chose blue Riau Malay traditional attire with gold accents.

According to Agus Harimurti, Pancasila is the basis of the state and a philosophy of life. “Such philosophy has always been the strength of the Indonesian nation,” he added.

Echoing similar sentiments, Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, who wore traditional Kalimantan clothing, reminded that Pancasila must be carried out in everyday life.

“I hope Pancasila will always remain in our hearts to guide the implementation of our tasks in the future,” Basuki said. (BPMI Presidential Secretariat/AIT) (GWH/LW)
